Everything You Need to Know About MEFCC 2017
The Middle East Film and Comic Con (MEFCC) is an annual convention celebrated in Dubai that created a lot of ripples in 2012 by emerging as the first-of-its-kind event ever, to have taken place in the UAE region. It is best known to bring to the forefront multiple genres that fall in the pop culture domain. The largest of its kind in the Middle East, MEFCC acts as a common ground, a place where talent gets the chance to meet experience and though, from science fiction to comic books to TV and film, everything gets its rightful place at MEFCC, you will not be surprised that the spotlight rests on the elements like horror, webcomics, manga, anime and much, much more.
It also acts as the place where the regionally created work gets the chance to reach the global platform — the Sons of the Two Suns, Gold Ring, Freej and Xero Error are some of the native works which have been previously exhibited. When compared to big events like ‘London Film and Comic Con’ (LFCC) which is celebrated annually in all major cities in the UK, many may think that MEFCC is a-scaled-down version but it is not, in its small life it has never failed in any way, when it comes down to the fun fodder that we geeks crave.
MEFCC 2017 – What’s On?
Though Middle East Film and Comic Con is not as old as LFCC, the fact that it’s launching in April of 2012 was attended by guests like Jason Momao, Luciana Caro, and Mark Shepherd — and Marvel Comics and Xpanse CGI were among its many exhibitors — it left quite an impression!! And, ever since there has been no turning back, with each passing year MEFCC has grown and improved manifolds. Last year MEFCC was able to pull about 60,000 people (an increase from the previous year) and was attended by prolific guests like Veronica Taylor, Nick Frost and Summer Glau etc and besides comic creators like Kevin Eastman and Fabian Nicieza, a Q&A session was also organized via video calling with Stan Lee.
This year, MEFCC is again bringing the best to the forefront! Greg Grunberg and Liam Cunningham are the celebrities, who are going to attend, and among the artists, you can expect names like Simone Bianchi, Yishan Li, and James C Mulligan; Andrew and Saeed Arjumand will be attending as the regional artists. So whether you want to meet the video-game makers, the celebrities, artists or feel like witnessing the evolution of an idea into reality at one of the workshops, MEFCC will not disappoint you. MEFCC’s Cosplay competition is among the things that make it so epic; this time the competition will be attended by international cosplayers like Linda Le and Nicole Marie Jean. So if you are planning to visit we will advise you to choose your costume, and if you haven’t yet chosen one, do it, April is already here!!
Star Trek: 50 Artists, 50 Years is MEFCC’s Major Highlight!!
Besides the celebrities and the big list of artists and competitions, the Star Trek: 50 Artists will also be showcased, the work which marks the 50th anniversary of Star Trek and covers 2D, as well as 3 D, works by various artists from around the world. This ‘50 Years Exhibit’ is being presented by Dubai TV and Film Commission and among the featured 50 artists the works by Leonard Nimoy have also been included.
Definitely, the experience of the year – MEFCC’s 2017 installment is going to be bigger and better!! So buck up guys, and brace yourself for the best three days of 2017 that every geek is waiting with bated breath!!
